Transformers
Transformers typically reduce the voltage by one-half. If it is 220 volts in, it will be 110 volts out. Voltage transformers do not change the cycles (or frequency).
It is important for you to plan carefully what size of transformers you will need. Make a list of the items needing transformers, grouping the items by room area.

Surge Suppressors
This category of product is designed to provide protection from large line surges.
220/240v models handles up to 60,000 spike amps. Rated for up to 9 amp load. Has four USA-type grounded outlets and plug. Can be used on 50/60hz current. Use on properly grounded circuit.
120v model handles up to 85,000
amp spikes. Rated for up to 15 amps (1800 watts). Has four USA-type grounded outlets and plug. Use on 60hz current with proper grounding.
Recommended for sensitive, expensive electronic equipment such as computers, video projectors, TVs, VCRs, audio equipment, etc.
